Inspired by the silence and the cold isolation of arctic landscapes, Finnish composer and multi-instrumentalist Arttu Silvast presents his debut solo album 'Polarity'. Imagined as a 19th-century ship leaving from the coast of Norway heading towards the northern polar regions, 'Polarity' embarks on a journey of discovery of both natural wonders and the inner self.

Combining natural ambience and composed musical passages, 'Polarity' features musical instruments from around the world. There are antique praying bells from Myanmar and percussion instruments from Kenya combined with more traditional Scandinavian instruments like the pump organ and the upright piano. The soundscapes audible in the album were recorded on a trip to Northern Norway and bring this serene 9-track album together with a sense of comforting cohesiveness.

Fans of Olafur Arnolds, Erland Cooper, Lights & Motion and perhaps Vangelis will absolutely love this album. ‘Polarity’ feels like a fully rounded story that has highs and lows stuffed with drama and feeling. Arttu Silvast has firmly put himself on the map with his debut release. A North Star if ever there was one. All aboard – ship ahoy!

Polarity” is an album that will be remembered for a very long time. Admittedly, the theme of travel and the sea has already been interpreted by many outstanding artists, Arttu Silvast brings the sea very close to you, it feels as if you have been transported to another world.
